Luiz plays down Brazil return amid fears over his Arsenal future

David Luiz has played down any suggestions that he could make an early exit from the Emirates.

Throughout his career, Luiz has been heavily linked with moves back to Brazil and these rumours have re-emerged after a mixed start to the season with the Gunners.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, as cited on the Express, he said:

I, today, have no such plan. I don’t have that as a goal. But we never know, football goes very fast.

After leaving Chelsea in the summer, he would’ve been hoped to reinvigorate his career in North London but things haven’t quite gone to plan.

This isn’t the first time that Luiz has been linked with a move back to Brazil and it is unlikely to be the last either.

It feels like this is a deal waiting to happen, with a move back to his home country seemingly the next natural step for the defender, who is clearly no longer at the peak of his powers.

This could work in Arsenal’s favour, espically when you have players like Callum Chambers and Rob Holding pushing for more game time in the Premier League.

Due to turn 33 next year, David Luiz was only ever going to be a short-term signing and if he can help bridge the gap between the likes Holding and William Saliba coming through, it’s a move that makes sense for both parties.
