Arsenal continue their Europa League campaign as they host Portuguese outfit Vitoria de Guimaraes at the Emirates.
The Gunners will be looking to bounce back after their 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Monday, and this will be a good opportunity to do so. Arsenal have won both of their Europa League games this season, beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 and Standard Liege 4-0.
Vitoria de Guimaraes on the other hand have had a torrid start to the Europa League, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Standard Liege and a 1-0 defeat to Frankfurt.
Domestically, Vitoria have fared a lot better. They currently sit in fourth place in the Primeira Liga and have won their three previous league games. But, a large injury crisis at the club has meant that the team have not really had time to play with each other in order to gel properly this season.
Vitoria qualified for this season’s Europa League by finishing fifth last season in the Primeira Liga, and having a better head-to-head record with Moreirense who had the same points.
Consequently, the Portuguese side had to play three qualifying rounds to make it to the group stage, defeating Jeunesse d’Esch of Luxembourg, Ventspils of Latvia and FCSB of Romania in the process.
Therefore, this side are well travelled and know what it is like to play away ties in Europe this season, but they will face a much tougher test against Unai Emery’s young side.
