Leipzig ready to sell Upamecano for cut-price fee – boost for Arsenal?

RB Leipzig are reportedly prepared to sell Arsenal transfer target for a reduced price next summer.

According to The Daily Mail, Arsenal are keen on the French defender and Leipzig are now reconsidering their stance on his availability due to his lack of interest in signing a new deal.

The report claims that Arsenal had an offer of £55m rejected in the summer by Leipzig, turning to David Luiz instead.

Despite the signing of Luiz, is this update a boost for Arsenal?

Yes. Arsenal have conceded 11 goals in their eight Premier League games this season, which shows that they have plenty of room for improvement in defence before they can compete at the very top.

Upamecano has been a shining light for Leipzig in the Bundesliga of late and has registered an impressive 7.09 rating for his performances in the league this season, as per WhoScored. He has also averaged a staggering 3.3 tackles per-game, compared to Luiz’s 0.9 and Sokratis’ 0.7. This shows that, in terms of tackling, Upamecano would be a huge step up on Arsenal’s current options.

Bringing him in would also be a signal of intent from Arsenal that they are ready to challenge for the title and sign top players from some of the best clubs in Europe – much like their signing of Nicolas Pepe over the summer.
