Arsenal are planning to step up their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Nunez, with Gunners officials flying out to Spain to watch the defender live.
That’s according to Football Insider, who claim that Arsenal have been left encouraged over a potential January deal due to the player losing his regular role to the returning Inigo Martinez in recent weeks.

Nunez, who has been likened to Manchester City star Aymeric Laporte, is also attracting interest from Premier League rivals Everton, with Marco Silva keen on strengthening his defensive ranks in the new year.
But would a move for Nunez be a smart piece of business by the Gunners?

The Spanish international certainly fits the criteria Arsenal look for in a defender. He’s young, quick, good on the ball and appears to have bags of potential.
Nunez could be available in a realistic deal financially for the Gunners, who look unlikely to splash the cash as much as they did in the summer.
Current first-choice pairing Sokratis and David Luiz are both the wrong side of 30, so bringing in Nunez to rival the likes of Rob Holding and William Saliba could be a decent decision by the Gunners.
