Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has compared Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling to Arsenal legend Marc Overmars.
Overmars was one of the world’s best wingers during late 1990s and the early 2000s and was prolific for the Gunners under the guidance of Wenger.

The Frenchman believes Sterling is having a similar spell under Pep Guardiola at City. Sterling has improved his goalscoring rate massively and now uses his blistering pace to good effect.
As quoted on the Daily Star, Wenger said:
Both he and [Leroy] Sane are the highest intensity workers in the league, he is so quick on his first two yards, he reminds me of Marc Overmars. That’s unstoppable.
What Sterling didn’t have back then was calmness in his finishing but now he has that. Sometimes, with very fast players they want to rush their finish and that’s what he has improved.
He has confidence. He still misses some, his conversion rate could be improved, but he is an exceptional talent and he can cause damage against anybody.

The one similarity between the two is pace. Overmars joined Arsenal in 1997 and was one of the quickest wingers in the top flight.
He struggled to impress massively in his first season, similar to Sterling, but he kept working hard and listening to advise from his coaches, which ended up paying off.
In 2008, Overmars was voted as Arsenal’s 12th best player ever by the club’s fans. Sterling will be hoping to become a City legend just how Overmars is so highly rated by Arsenal’s fans.
