# Ceballos’ injury scare thought to be fatigue related – the Gunners need to take extra care when he returns

Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos has picked up a muscular injury scare on international duty.

The 23-year-old, who netted his first goal for the Gunners shortly prior to the international break, suffered a hamstring issue on Tuesday and was withdrawn early from training with the Spain squad.

However, according to [Spanish outlet AS, cited by the Metro](https://metro.co.uk/2019/10/09/arsenal-star-dani-ceballos-suffers-injury-scare-international-duty-10892384/), Ceballos underwent an MRI scan later that day which found no serious problems.

The midfielder turned out for training again on Wednesday but was unable to complete the full session, with the issue thought to be fatigue related.

Ceballos looks likely to be absent from the Spain side to take on Norway on Saturday and may not even feature against Sweden on Tuesday, but how should the Gunners address the midfielder’s return to the Emirates?

They’ll have to treat Ceballos’ fatigue with extra care, so a week or two out of the starting line-up under Unai Emery following the international break could be a decision that needs to be made.

The 23-year-old has already featured in 12 games for club and country this season, and with the midfielder also playing a key role in Spain’s Under-21 European Championship triumph over the summer, he could really benefit with a few cameo appearances off the bench.

If both the country and the Gunners refuse to rest him, they’ll be risking the midfielder to serious muscular damage, which wouldn’t please Emery, the player himself or his parent club Real Madrid.

Out of favour Mesut Ozil would be a like-for-like replacement for Ceballos, however, it wouldn’t surprise us if Emery decided to play three defensive-minded midfielders against Sheffield United if he did decide to rest Ceballos.
