# Arsenal scouts watch Sobolev – would he be a good signing?

Arsenal scouts reportedly had their eyes on Russian striker Aleksandr Sobolev this weekend, but the Gunners will face competition from Man United in any deal.

[According to The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/oct/08/football-transfer-rumours-arsenal-join-race-for-aleksandr-sobolev?CMP=share_btn_tw), Arsenal scouts ran the rule over the player as they ponder a January swoop.

Manchester United are also admirers of the Krylia Sovetov forward, who has 10 goals in 12 league appearances this season. Would he be a good signing for the Gunners?

Standing at 6ft 4in, Sobolev would certainly offer Arsenal something different in the final third.

He would arrive as a nice alternative to both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – both tremendous finishers but can sometimes lack the physical presence inside the penalty box.

Having a ‘Plan B’ isn’t something that Arsenal have always been prepared for, so a swoop to sign Sobolev could be a good move from the club all in all.

There is no mention of a fee in the report, but you’d like to think that he wouldn’t be the most expensive option on the market, making this a shrewd piece of business from the Gunners.
