Ajax remove Ziyech’s release clause – is this a loss for Arsenal?

Hakim Ziyech’s low release clause has been removed in his new contract amid interest from Premier League clubs, according to The Mirror.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool were in for the twenty-six-year-old Moroccan international but Ajax managed to tie the midfielder down to a new deal.

The fact he remained at the Eredivisie side over the summer was surprising, considering his release clause was just €30 million (£25 million) which in the current market is a bargain for a player of his quality.

Ajax and Ziyech have now agreed a new contract keeping him in Amsterdam until 2022 so, the likelihood of him being in the Premier League is now looking a lot more unlikely as Ajax are holding out for a fee of around 50 million and if he carries on his current form that figure is only going to rise.

Should the Gunners manage to prise Ziyech away from Ajax then it would be a great addition to an already scary attack.

Do Arsenal actually need the Moroccan though? Well as Real Madrid aren’t keen on selling Ceballos, they will need a replacement for him and Ziyech would be perfect to fill the void.
