Arsenal fans hail Mustafi after he continues to impress - could he earn a shock league recall?

Arsenal fans have hailed Shkodran Mustafi once again after the German continued his impressive form this season against Standard Liege.

Gabriel Martinelli rightfully took the plaudits at the Emirates on Thursday after his two goals and one assist helped Unai Emery’s side make it two wins from two in the Europa League.

Other notable performances came from full-backs Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney, however, it was Mustafi who came in for praise from Arsenal fan page @LtArsenal.

They highlighted the fact that the Gunners haven’t conceded a goal during the German’s three appearances this season, which led to these Arsenal supporters joining in on the love for the 30-year-old.

Twitter: @ltarsenal He deserves at least one game. Either remove sokratis or play 3 at the back. Cause the defense is leakin… https://t.co/Ejakh0BETB (@bvkarande1995)

But could he potentially force his way back into Emery’s Premier League plans?

Current first-choice pairing David Luiz and Sokratis have turned out alongside each other on six occasions this season, and the experienced duo are yet to keep a clean sheet as a partnership.

This worrying stat could make Emery shake things up at the back this weekend against Bournemouth, however, Mustafi appears to be behind Rob Holding in the central defensive pecking order.

It would come as a major surprise if Mustafi was given the nod this weekend, but if he continues to impress in the Gunners’ cup competitions, he could well force his way back into Premier League contention.

Many wouldn’t have given the German a chance of breaking back into Emery’s first-choice XI over the summer, however, after playing a key role in three Gunners clean sheets this season, he may well be in line for a shock league return over the coming months.
