Arsenal fans back Unai Emery’s reasoning for Mesut Ozil absence

It appears as if Mesut Ozil’s six-year stint with Arsenal may well be coming to an end.

The German has featured just twice this season and was a surprise absentee from the matchday squad on Thursday as the Gunners made it two wins from two in the Europa League by defeating Standard Liege 4-0.

Gabriel Martinelli was the standout performer for Unai Emery’s side, scoring twice and setting up Dani Ceballos for his first Arsenal goal, however, following the game, Emery was grilled on Ozil’s absence.

As reported by football.london reporter James Benge, Emery simply revealed that other players deserved a place in the squad more than Ozil.

And these Arsenal fans were quick to share their views on the Spaniard’s decision, with many surprisingly agreeing with the boss.

To be honest, we weren’t expecting such a positive response from a large section of Arsenal fans.

Emery has normally copped plenty of criticism for his treatment on Ozil, so it’s interesting to see these Gunners fans now on side with the manager.

He’s been a tremendous servant to the club, however, with Emery leaving him out of the matchday squad for a second consecutive fixture, it appears as if the German looks destined to either leave on a permanent or temporary basis in the new year.
