Arsenal fans on social media have surprisingly leapt to the defence of club captain Granit Xhaka.
In the process of Scott McTominay’s shot firing into the back of the net, replays seemed to suggest that the Arsenal midfielder had ducked out of the way of the shot, sparking outrage in some corners of the Gunners fan base.
However, plenty believe that wasn’t the case, as other replays clearly show a wicked deflection off Sokratis that takes the ball away from Xhaka.
These fans on social media have been defending Xhaka, despite the heavy criticism.

Arsenal fans defending Xhaka is not something many would’ve expected to see in the wake of the result, but plenty clearly feel that the Swiss midfielder is being harshly treated here.
When you look at the replays, it is quite clear to see the huge deflection that the ball takes off Sokratis.
You also have to give a little bit of credit to McTominay as well, the ball was struck brilliantly and it came at the Arsenal duo very quickly, leaving neither of them any time to react.
It may not happen very often, but it appears that Arsenal fans are supporting their captain this time around.
