# Martinelli snubbed by United on four occasions – will he make them regret it with the Gunners?

Manchester United reportedly turned down the chance to sign Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli on four occasions – so will he make them live to regret it with the Gunners?

The Brazilian teenager starred on his first competitive Arsenal start in the week, scoring twice as Unai Emery’s side eased past Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.

Martinelli made the move to North London from Brazilian side Ituano in a deal worth £6 million, however, things could have been very different.

The [Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/arsenal-ace-gabriel-martinelli-snubbed-20310807) report that United invited the forward over to Manchester to train on four occasions between 2015 and 2017, with the teenager even featuring in an Under-18 game for the club.

However, despite even posing with the United shirt at one point, a move was never completed.

So will he make United rue the decision not to sign him over the coming years?

### Read Arsenal verdict

Absolutely. It’s clear to see from his performance in the week that the Gunners have a real gem on their hands. The teenager was a constant threat throughout and really staked his claim for a first-team spot.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that he flourishes at the Emirates over the coming years, which would really rub salt in the United wound.
