Contrasting reports emerge on Martial’s Arsenal availability – will it force Emery to alter his plans?

Contrasting reports have emerged surrounding Anthony Martial’s availability for the fixture against Arsenal on Monday.

According to the Evening Standard, cited by the Metro, the Frenchman has made good progress following a recent thigh injury and could be available to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford, should the Norwegian wish to risk him.

However, Sky Sports report that the forward is unlikely to return to the squad in time for the meeting with Unai Emery’s side.

Marcus Rashford has been ruled out of the vital clash, and with Solskjaer fairly limited in attack, Martial’s return could be crucial for the Red Devils.

But what does this mean for Arsenal, will Unai Emery now alter his plans for the trip to Manchester?

The Spaniard has some selection issues of his own.

Rob Holding returned to action in the week against Nottingham Forest, and Emery looks set to make a crucial decision at the heart of his defence.

If Martial isn’t fit, Emery may have been willing to select the struggling David Luiz and Sokratis, relying on their experience to cope with a relatively inexperienced United attack.

However, if Martial makes it, Emery could be tempted to start the impressive Callum Chambers and Holding at the venue where the latter suffered a serious knee injury last year.

It’ll be interesting to see who the Spaniard goes for on Monday evening, and the latest injury news regarding the opposing star could force him to seriously consider his options.
