# Frimpong tells Arsenal to buy Koulibaly – would he be a good signing?

Arsenal have been told that Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is the man that they need to sign to bridge the gap between themselves and league leaders Liverpool.

That’s the view of former Gunners midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong, who claims that the club have to improve at the back if they want to get closer to both Liverpool and Manchester City.

Speaking to [Meta Ratings, as cited on the Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1183149/Arsenal-news-Kalidou-Koulibaly-Napoli-transfer), he said:

> They need to be buying better defenders, like Koulibaly, who can make a big impact on Arsenal’s team. Yes, a Koulibaly! They have to improve the defence to challenge.

Would the Napoli man be a good signing for the Gunners?

During his time in Italy, Koulibaly has established himself as one of Europe’s top defenders and he would certainly be a great signing for the Gunners.

While there are no reports suggesting a move could be imminent, he should be a player that the Gunners look to sign if the chance ever became available.

He has the speed and physicality to step up in the Premier League and you only have to look at how heavily he has been [linked](https://metro.co.uk/2019/09/16/liverpool-would-have-signed-napoli-defender-kalidou-koulibaly-if-virgil-van-dijk-deal-had-fallen-through-10751564/) with clubs in England in the past to see how highly he is rated.

David Luiz hasn’t exactly set the world alight since joining the club, while Sokratis has also endured some questionable moments this season.

Arsenal fans can take hope from the return of Rob Holding and the fact that William Saliba is joining the club next summer, but there may still be some way to go before the Gunners have a top-class back four.
