Arsenal remain interested in Woodman – a great long-term option?

Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is reportedly still a transfer target for both Arsenal and Celtic.

Currently, on loan at Swansea, Woodman is impressing in the Championship this season – would he be a great long-term option for the Gunners?

Despite putting pen to paper on a new deal at St James’ Park, Woodman’s Newcastle future remains up in the air and Arsenal could look to take advantage of this.

An England youth international, Woodman would be a fantastic long-term option for the Gunners.

Bernd Leno and Emi Martinez are two very strong options but Woodman would provide Arsenal with a potential successor to the German goalkeeper in a few years.

At 27, Leno is about to approach his peak and the Gunners shouldn’t be in any hurry to replace him. However, this could work in Woodman’s favour, with the 22-year-old having time on his side.

He would be afforded the time to further his development, possibly elsewhere on loan before coming back to compete for the number one spot.

Arsenal may also have to consider replacing Martinez if first-team football isn’t guranteed for him in London in the near future, something that could present another opening for Woodman.
