Milan enter the race to sign Malen – should Arsenal step up their interest?

Arsenal will face competition from Italy in their bid to re-sign Donyell Malen from PSV, with Milan the latest team to express an interest.

According to Calciomercato, as cited on ESPN, the Serie A side are keen to sign the young Dutch forward.

It is claimed that initial talks are already underway, but there may be some way to go yet, with Milan reportedly not impressed by the €30 million valuation.

Should Arsenal step up their interest or do they have sufficient cover in the final third?

Malen’s 11 goals in 14 games has seen him rise to fame this season and his performances have led to plenty of transfer speculation.

Arsenal certainly made a mistake by letting him go so young and now they look like they could have the chance to make amends for that.

If Arsenal were to pursue Malen next summer, it would surely suggest that there could be someone departing or that the club have bigger and better plans for a player like Eddie Nketiah.

He is currently impressing out on loan and could be a squad option next season. However, if they were to pursue Malen as well, that would leave the club with four options to lead the line once you take into account Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

If Nketiah is to go out on loan once more, perhaps to a Premier League team or another major European league, then a move for Malen makes sense – but it will come at a cost for the Gunners.
