Arsenal fans react after learning Aubameyang’s Villa winner shouldn’t have stood

Technology has been one of the key talking points in the Premier League this season, with tight offside and handball calls ruling out some key goals, and it appears as if Arsenal’s dramatic late winner should also have been pulled up by the officials.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rifled in a free-kick five minutes from time to send the Emirates into bedlam and hand the Gunners a vital 3-2 win over Aston Villa.

However, according to football.london, due to Calum Chambers and David Luiz both standing within a yard of the Villa wall when Aubameyang took the free-kick, the away side should have been awarded an indirect free-kick of their own after recent rule changes.

These Arsenal fans were quick to respond to the news shared by football.london reporter James Benge, and as expected, many weren’t happy.

It would have been the biggest VAR call of the season to rule out Aubameyang’s late effort, and it looks as if Arsenal got away with one on Sunday.

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings appeared to pick up on the incident and pleaded with Jon Moss to check with the technology, and if he did, it could have caused chaos at the Emirates.

Luckily for Unai Emery’s side, the goal stood, which earned the Gunners a first Premier League win in 36 days. The Spaniard will now be telling his players to stay as far away as possible from the defensive wall in attacking situations.
