“Class act” – Arsenal fans praise Aubameyang after learning Pepe penalty gesture

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is slowly becoming an Arsenal legend, and his decision to allow Nicolas Pepe to take a second-half penalty against Aston Villa has gone down extremely well with the majority of Gunners fans.

A man down and trailing 1-0, Arsenal were in trouble against Dean Smith’s newly-promoted side before being awarded a spot-kick on the hour mark.

Unai Emery confirmed after the game that it was Aubameyang’s decision to allow Pepe to step up, and he cooly converted to grab his first goal for the club.

The Gunners eventually went on to win a dramatic encounter 3-2, with Aubameyang himself firing in the decisive strike six minutes from time.

However, even though he netted the winner, it was Aubameyang’s gesture on the hour mark that had these Arsenal fans talking on social media.

It’s easy to see why multiple supporters are calling for Aubameyang to become captain.

He has been one of Arsenal’s standout performers over the past 12 months, and it looks as if Granit Xhaka needs to be replaced as the current leader following his continued midfield struggles.

Emery is hoping to name his ‘five captains’ later this week, and following his brilliant gesture, Aubameyang surely has to be on that list.
