In light of the recent speculation about Unai Emery’s future at Arsenal, it has been revealed how the Gunners came about appointing the Spaniard in the first place.
In a report from The Athletic, it is claimed that Massimiliano Allegri, Mikel Arteta and Unai Emery made up a three-man shortlist when the club were looking to replace Arsene Wenger.
As cited on social media by @afcstuff, it is claimed that former midfielder Arteta was poised to take the job before Ivan Gazidis had “a late change of heart.”
After learning more about the appointment, it is clear to see that Arteta remains a popular choice with these Arsenal fans on social media.

Arteta clearly remains a popular choice with these Arsenal fans and it’s easy to see why.
Not only is he highly thought of among the club’s fan base, but a developing and well-respected coach too.
He has played a key role behind the scenes at Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola all too happy to see him stay at the Etihad after he was heavily linked with the Arsenal role.
The Spaniard has certainly been learning from the best during his time with City and could now be ready to jump into management himself.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal would be willing to hand him such a job without any experience, but it’s unlikely his name is one that is going to go away anytime soon.
