Durham tells Arsenal to hire Mourinho – would he be a good fit?

TalkSPORT’s Adrian Durham has told Arsenal to consider bringing in Jose Mourinho as Unai Emery’s replacement.

Emery is under an increasing amount of pressure after a mixed start to the new season.

The unrest among supporters was compounded by a poor performance away to Watford, with the Gunners throwing away a two-goal lead.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said:

You know who they need? They need Jose Mourinho. He will be perfect for Arsenal. Their fans will hate me saying it. He is a free agent – can you see it getting better under Unai? Because I can’t. So do they need somebody who’s actually going to go in there and just shake the club up? He’s exactly who they need.

Would he be a popular appointment given his history with two of the club’s biggest rivals?

The honest answer is, well, we simply don’t know.

As an ex-Chelsea and Manchester United manager, he hardly has the perfect CV in terms of his former employees, but his track record speaks for itself.

Since leaving Manchester United, it’s clear to see his stock has fallen at the very highest level.

He’s not a manager that is going to be in it for the long term, but it all depends on what direction Arsenal want to go in.

The club are craving a return to the Champions League and you’d think Mourinho would feel confident about guiding this squad to a top-four finish.

If Arsenal are looking for something more short-term, rather than trying to find the next Arsene Wenger, Mourinho may become an increasingly popular choice, especially given growing unrest among the Arsenal fan base towards Emery.

When you look at how little some fans believe in the Spaniard, maybe Mourinho may not sound like a bad option after all.
