Arsenal blew a two-goal lead to only get a point against Watford at Vicarage Road in an entertaining Premier League game on Sunday.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a brace in the first half to put the Gunners into a commanding position.
However, their defence gifted two goals away after the break to allow the home side to come back into the game and rue themselves for not scoring the winner late on.
Aubameyang made an instinctive finish in the 21st minute after some good work by Sead Kolasinac. The Gabon star had a tap in 12 minutes later after Ainsley Maitland-Niles delivered it for him on the plate.
Watford pulled one back through Tom Cleverley when Sokratis gave the ball away in his box. Just a few minutes later, David Luiz made a clumsy challenge on Roberto Pereyra to give away a penalty.
The aforementioned Watford man stepped up and scored his spot kick with aplomb.
At the end of the day, on the evidence of what happened in the second half, Arsenal should count themselves lucky to even get a point.
Here’s how we rated their players:
Bernd Leno - 6
Couldn’t have done much to save either of the gifted goals. Made one good save later on in the match to secure a point for the team.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles - 5
The youngster was good going forward and assisted a goal too. But he was getting exposed defensively, especially in the second half as the Gunners faltered.
Sokratis- 4
He took a lot of chances on the ball with Watford pressing. Eventually the iron broke and a goal was gifted. A nervy Greek performance!
David Luiz - 5
He was having a decent game until another rash moment came and a penalty was given away.
Sead Kolasinac- 5
Did some good work going forward and assisted the first goal, but wasn’t good enough while defending. What Arsenal would give for Tierney to be fully fit!
Granit Xhaka - 6
He was one of the better players on the pitch for Arsenal and he controlled the midfield as much as he could.
Matteo Guendouzi - 5
The youngster put in a mixed performance as he couldn’t really impact the match in a way that he would have hoped before being subbed off after the the hour mark.
Dani Ceballos - 6
The Spaniard did well on the ball and tried his best to push the team forward even when Watford were marauding at the other end. Subbed off in the second half.
Mesut Ozil - 6
Took some time for him to get into his stride in his league start of this season. But delivered the key pass for the buildup of the second Arsenal goal.
Nicolas Pepe - 5
Not his best game in an Arsenal game as he blew hot and cold throughout the course of 90 minutes.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 8
Scored both the goals and looked threatening in the final third. He should be disappointed that his team let the lead slip in the second half.
(SUB) Lucas Torreira - 5
Came on to add calmness in midfield, but he couldn’t do much of that as Arsenal tried to hold onto a point.
(SUB) Joe Willock - 5
Came on to add dynamism in midfield but also struggled to do so.
(SUB) Reiss Nelson - 6
Even though Arsenal were under pressure later in the game, Nelson came on and impressed when given the chance.
