Arsenal fans in shock after Matt Macey turns 25

Matt Macey joined Arsenal from Bristol Rovers back in 2013 at the age of 19, and many tipped the shot-stopper to become a future Gunners number one.

Since then, the goalkeeper has made a handful of appearances in the senior side but has had to make do with a regular role as the club’s Under-23 first-choice ‘keeper.

To be honest, the news came as a big surprise to us as well.

A goalkeeper who many thought was around the age of 21, has only had three stints out on loan during his time with the Gunners.

Macey made a handful of appearances for Accrington Stanley back in 2015 and turned out 11 times for Luton Town in 2017, before gaining some much-needed first-team football on loan with Plymouth Argyle last season.

Now 25, it could turn out to be the goalkeeper’s final year on the books at the Emirates. He desperately needs to establish himself as a first-team regular somewhere, and that looks highly unlikely in North London.
