Arsenal are the closest rivals to Liverpool and City says Wenger – Does he have a point?

Arsene Wenger believes his former side are the closest rivals to last season’s breakaway top two of Manchester City and Liverpool, with Chelsea and Manchester United falling short, so does he have a point?

According to the Metro, Wenger told beIN Sport that he thinks Arsenal are the team who are closest to being able to compete with Liverpool and City while Chelsea lack experience and United consistency.

Maybe the team who has the potential is Arsenal who could be the closest. Chelsea looks a bit young, not enough maturity up front and not enough maturity at the back. Man Utd hasn’t found a settled way where you could say today they could fight for the championship.

So does he have a point?

While it is certainly a big statement to make at this stage in the season, Wenger does raise a valid point about both Chelsea and United.

Chelsea have an incredibly youthful side, while United have beaten the Blues this season but also lost at home to the likes of Crystal Palace; emphasising their inconsistencies.

One side who Wenger did not mention, however, was the North London rivals.

Tottenham have frustratingly finished above the Gunners in the league in each of the last three season’s so would perhaps be on par with Arsenal with regards to who can compete with Liverpool and City this season.
