Arsenal fans react after Saliba is named in official Premier League squad

Arsenal have reportedly included summer signing William Saliba in their official Premier League squad, despite the fact he will be spending the season on loan in Ligue 1.

As part of the deal that saw him sign from Saint-Etienne, Saliba will spend the campaign on loan at his former club to continue his development.

However, according to Jeorge Bird, who covers all things Arsenal youth, the Gunners have listed Saliba in their squad.

They are believed to have done so as it will speed up the process of him being named as a homegrown player. He will need to be registered for three years before he’s 21 to be considered.

A number of Arsenal fans have spotted this on social media and have hailed the club for their idea.

@JoeCarr0ll7 was among the fans who couldn’t believe it, tweeting: “What a club.”

Arsenal fan @DeacySqueaky was another to praise the Gunners, saying: “goat club.”

Raul Sanllehi has been given a lot of praise over the summer for his work and @rsenalDan continued this by tweeting: “Raul working his magic again!”

Meanwhile, @MamityMax was left impressed by the club’s thought process, saying: “Some serious thought went into that move!”

If nothing else, this is great planning from Arsenal that will help them in the coming years.

With the Premier League clamping down on homegrown rules, the quicker that Saliba is registered as a homegrown player the better.

Some may consider it a little sneaky as there is little to no chance of the player actually featuring for the Gunners this season, but the club are not believed to have done anything wrong here.
