Havertz not afraid to move on amid Arsenal links – is he the perfect signing?

German star Kai Havertz has played down any suggestions that he has been ‘scared off’ of a move away from Bayer Leverkusen.

Havertz, one of Germany’s brightest young talents, was linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea over the summer.

No move came about this time around, but many expect him to seal a big-money deal in the near future.

Speaking to Sky Germany, as reported by the Metro, the German international gave his thoughts on his next move.

They haven’t scared me off. I don’t know exactly what it was like with Timo [Werner], but it just didn’t happen for me this year. I think there were a number of reasons why. But I’m happy to be here and stay in Leverkusen for another year. We’ll see what will happens next summer.

So could Havertz be the perfect signing for Arsenal?

Havertz is widely regarded as one of the best young players in Europe and if Arsenal are interested in signing the player, they will not be short of competition for his services.

It came as a surprise to plenty that he did not move on from Leverkusen over the summer, but another year playing regularly in the Bundesliga could be a blessing in disguise.

It’s easy to see how on paper, Havertz could be a long-term replacement for Mesut Ozil and if Arsenal are unable to pursue a permanent deal for Dani Ceballos, the 20-year-old would be an obvious alternative.

He’s much more of a goalscorer than Ozil and his 20 goals in all competitions last season is a great return for someone of his age.

As with any deal, this could come down to a matter of money and what Arsenal achieve this season. Given the nature of the teams looking to sign him, you can bet Champions League qualification will be crucial if the Gunners are to stand any chance of completing a deal.

After Arsenal spent so heavily on Nicolas Pepe, it remains to be seen what funds they will have to them next summer, but if a player of Havertz’s quality is available then the club must do everything in their power to try and complete a deal.
