# Fans share mixed reaction to Paul Merson’s Arsenal front three claim

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City all have brilliant front three combinations that can cause havoc for any defence in the Premier League.

Nicolas Pepe, who joined the Gunners from Lille in a club-record deal over the summer, started alongside Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the first time in the 2-2 draw against Tottenham last weekend.

Lacazette and Aubameyang were on the scoresheet at the Emirates, while Pepe once again impressed in an Arsenal shirt.

And now, former Arsenal man, Paul Merson, has revealed that the Gunners’ front three are on par with Liverpool and Manchester City’s, as cited by [AFTV Media](https://twitter.com/AFTVMedia/status/1168804069827178496).

> Arsenal’s front three are as good as any in the Premier League, on a par with Manchester City and Liverpool without a doubt, but great attackers rely on service. The only solution I see would be to play the front three with Mesut Ozil in the hole behind them.

Merson’s claim has sparked plenty of reaction on social media, and these Liverpool and Arsenal fans were quick to reply to Merson’s quotes.

> Twitter: @AFTVMedia Ridiculous, it’s not even close. (@danielllllllfc)

> Twitter: @AFTVMedia did Merson actually just say something sensible wow (@m\_wasim09)

> Twitter: @AFTVMedia Mourinho basically said the same thing. Why can’t Emery see that??? (@Notorious\_Kris)

> Twitter: @AFTVMedia This is ridiculous, your front 3 rely on service from others, ours create the chances for each other and… https://t.co/qXDninOxeH (@Lfc1997Ryan)

### Read Arsenal verdict

There’s no doubting that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have the best front three combinations in the division.

However, Pepe, Lacazette and Aubameyang still need plenty of time to gel together before they can be considered in the same bracket alongside the attacks of their rivals.

If the trio can all produce solid seasons and reach double figures for both goals and assists, then fans and pundits across the league will start to take note.

In terms of getting the best out of the three, Merson could be right in playing Mesut Ozil in behind the trio for constant supply.

Dani Ceballos could be another option to Unai Emery, however, playing three defensive-minded midfielders in a flat line across the midfield, like he did in the opening stages against Tottenham, shouldn’t be considered again.
