Lucas Moura addresses David Luiz’s Arsenal switch – why the defender should start on Sunday

David Luiz shocked the footballing world by completing a deadline day move to Arsenal from Chelsea earlier this month.

The Brazilian made the short move to the Emirates from Stamford Bridge in a deal worth £8 million and has since made two appearances under Unai Emery.

The 32-year-old endured a tough afternoon against Mohamed Salah and Liverpool last time out, with many now left wondering whether or not he will start against North London rivals Tottenham on Sunday.

One of Spurs’ star men who could come up against Luiz, Lucas Moura, has spoken about his fellow countrymen’s decision to swap blue for red this summer.

Talking to the Evening Standard, cited by The Boot Room, the attacker, who played alongside Luiz at Paris Saint-Germain, said:

I am happy for him because it was a good transfer for him to make. I am also happy because he is closer to me now.

He can come visit me at my home easier because when he was at Chelsea, he was so far away.

Was I surprised he left Chelsea for Arsenal? That’s football. Anything can happen. Of course it is not normal because the two clubs face each other every year in a derby. Chelsea fans are not happy.

But everyone needs to do their choice and they need to respect them.

Should Luiz keep his place in the side this Sunday?

Despite a shaky performance against Liverpool, we think Luiz should be kept in the side this Sunday.

The Brazilian, who tends to take plenty of risks on the ball, has plenty of experience in London derbies, an attribute that will be key against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Alongside Sokratis, the pair need time to gel and build a solid platform for the rest of the campaign.

Emery could well decide to drop Luiz and replace him with Callum Chambers, however, even though the Brazilian’s confidence is more than likely low at the minute, we can’t see that happening.
