Eddie Nketiah heaps praise on Ian Wright’s influence during Leeds loan

Eddie Nketiah has made quite the impression at Leeds United during his first month at Elland Road.

The 20-year-old, who was wanted by over 25 sides this summer, has scored three goals in under 200 minutes of first-team football for the Whites.

His most important strike came late on against Brentford last week, netting the winner four minutes after coming on for his home debut.

A man who was present that evening was Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

The former Gunners striker has paid close attention to Nketiah in recent years, and talking in the press conference ahead of the home fixture against Swansea City, cited by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Nketiah heaped praise on Wright’s influence.

He’s been a massive help, and nice to have around.

I’ve done a few commercial shoots with him so I’ve got really close to him. He’s taken a real liking [to me], and it’s just a dream come true.

As a kid I always looked up to him and watched his clips. For him to be taking such an active role and supporting and coming down to watch the games is great for me.

Nketiah then went on to open up regarding his relationship with the former Arsenal man, adding:

He gives a lot of advice, a bit like a little mentor. I just try to learn and get everything I can from him because he’s been a top player and had a great career.

[We talk about] how I’m doing here, how I’m settling and stuff. We just have general conversations sometimes as well.

He’s a nice guy, a easy guy to talk to, so he makes life me a lot easier.

It’s good to have help from someone that’s had such a great career.

But what can Nketiah expect to achieve during his campaign in Yorkshire?

On a collective front, his targets for the season will ultimately be to help Marcelo Bielsa’s side return to the Premier League.

The Whites currently sit top of the Championship on 13 points after five rounds, with Nketiah yet to start a league encounter.

On an individual basis, Nketiah, who has already bagged three goals for the club, will definitely be aiming for double figures.

If he can manage to force his way into Bielsa’s starting XI and stay there, there’s no reason why the pacey striker can’t score over 20 goals, especially with the constant supply from the likes of Helder Costa and Pablo Hernandez.

The majority of Arsenal fans have already kept a close eye on Nketiah at Leeds, and they’ll continue to do so, with the end goal to break into Unai Emery’s starting line up.
