Arsenal fans having flashbacks after being drawn against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup

Arsenal will take on Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium next month in the third round of the EFL Cup.

The two sides last met in a cup competition last January, with Forest dumping the Gunners out of the FA Cup with a 4-2 win at the City Ground.

Arsenal were the current holders of the FA Cup that year, while Forest were without a permanent manager, so the result came as a major shock.

The defeat was also Arsene Wenger’s first FA Cup third-round exit during his time with the Gunners, with the Frenchman leaving the club at the end of the season.

And these Arsenal fans were quick to take to social media to reply to the news of the draw, with many remembering the defeat at the City Ground 19 months ago.

The tie this time around, although it is at home, could be a trickier one.

Forest have been in fine form under new boss Sabri Lamouchi in recent weeks, with the Reds really clicking in the final third.

They’re unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions, brushing aside fierce rivals Derby County 3-0 in the second round last time out.

Unai Emery will more than likely field a relatively strong side next month, and the Gunners will certainly have to be at their best if they wish to avoid another shock defeat and advance to the last 16.
