Arsenal slid to their first league defeat of this season when they were handed a 3-1 beating by Liverpool at Anfield.
A Mohamed Salah brace and a goal from Joel Matip was enough for the home side to secure three points. Lucas Torreira did pull one back for the Gunners later on, but it just a mere consolation.
In a first half where Unai Emery’s defensive tactics were working to some extent, Arsenal had two very good chances falling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe.
While the former’s chip went an inch wide of the post, the latter should have done better to finish his one-v-one chance against the goalkeeper.
Liverpool then took the lead through Matip’s header from a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner just before half-time.
It was two in the 49th minute when David Luiz gave a penalty away for Salah to score. The Egyptian star then embarrassed the Arsenal man enroute to score his second and the team’s third goal around the hour mark.
The Gunners pulled one back via Torreira in the 85th minute, but the game was done and dusted by then.
