Reports in recent days suggested that Arsenal have joined the race for Rennes’ teenage sensation, Eduardo Camavinga.
However, according to French outlet L’Equipe, cited by the Daily Cannon, the Gunners actually made a shock offer for the 16-year-old in the summer.
The report suggests that Arsenal and Premier League rivals Tottenham both had offers knocked back by the Ligue 1 side for Camavinga, who recently shone against French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
German giants Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich and Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona also failed in moves for the midfielder, who is regarded as the next big prospect in European football.
So have the Gunners now blown their big chance to land the youngster?

Rennes clearly rate the player extremely highly, so it was always going to be a tough task to sign Camavinga this summer.
Five other European giants were also keen on the Frenchman, and interest in the player will only increase if he continues his fine form this season.
Camavinga is under contract with his current employers until 2022, so it will more than likely take a huge offer to tempt Rennes into selling their star asset over the next 12 months as his value skyrockets.
The Gunners may well have missed their best chance to land the dynamic midfielder, however, Arsenal fans can’t complain with the business they did get over the line in recent months.
