Former Bordeaux scout Calippe slams club’s purchase of Koscielny

Former Bordeaux scout Calippe slams club’s purchase of Koscielny

Laurent Koscielny didn’t end his nine-year association with Arsenal on the best of terms when he signed for Bordeaux.

The Frenchman refused to travel on the Gunners’ pre-season tour, with the 33-year-old eventually getting his wish of a return to his native country.

He was then announced by the Ligue 1 side by ripping off an Arsenal shirt to uncover a Bordeaux strip, which again, didn’t go down well with supporters.

The Gunners then replaced the 33-year-old with David Luiz, with the Brazilian joining on a two-year deal on deadline day from rivals Chelsea.

And former Bordeaux scout Laurent Calippe has recently given a brutal interview regarding the Ligue 1 side’s capture of Koscielny.

Calippe, talking to French outlet GFFN, cited by Football London, hit out at the duration of the contract and the salary the Frenchman will receive during that time.

It’s not at all the choice that I would have made.

Buy a 34-year-old, spend €5m on him, pay him around €3.3m a year.

Yes, he’s got lots of caps, a good reputation, he’s a very good player. But they’ve signed him for four years! Four years at three million, three and a half million a year! They’re giving him 15 million over four years!

Read Arsenal verdict

Arsenal have come off pretty well with the departure of Koscielny and arrival of Luiz.

The Gunners sold Koscielny for £4.6 million and paid just £8 million for Luiz, with the former Chelsea man a much better defender at this stage of the pair’s respective careers.

In the long run, Koscielny will probably regret the way he ended things with Arsenal, however, for the time being, he’ll have to deal with Calippe’s lastest comments, which to be honest, are an amusing read for Gunners fans.
