According to Goal, Serie A side Roma, along with Ligue 1 side Monaco, are battling it out for the services of Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani – but should the Gunners potentially revisit their interest in January?
The Gunners were looking at deals for both Rugani and RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano in the last week of the summer window before turning their attention to David Luiz, who they signed for £8 million on deadline day.

Both Roma and Monaco still have a few weeks to complete any more summer business, but should the Gunners look to go back in for Ruagni in January if he remains in Turin?

In our opinion, no, they shouldn’t. The 25-year-old has majorly fallen down the pecking order with the Serie A champions in recent years, and although he could have turned out to be a good signing, he doesn’t need to be made a priority by Unai Emery in the new year.
New signing Luiz is just as good, if not better than Rugani, and the Brazilian has proven Premier League experience.
If the Gunners decide to bolster their central defensive options further in five months time, they should be looking to bring Upamecano to the Emirates.
Although the Frenchman will come at a hefty price, he has all the capabilities to excel in England, and at the age of 20, will only improve on his already impressive game year on year. If they can somehow lure the youngster to London, the Gunners may have found their answer to their defensive woes.
