Arsenal fans heap praise on Chambers following opening day win

Arsenal began their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win away to Newcastle United on Sunday.

On a miserable day in Tyneside, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s second-half strike was the difference between the two sides, with the Gunners managing to keep the Magpies relatively quiet in the closing stages.

One thing that would have pleased Arsenal fans most was the fact they were able to keep a clean sheet.

Unai Emery had to wait until April for a first shutout on the road last season, and many Gunners supporters were quick to heap praise on the returning Callum Chambers.

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Fulham but appears to have impressed Emery in pre-season, who selected the Englishman ahead of new signing David Luiz.

Arsenal fans took to social media following the game on Sunday to heap praise on the defender, with former Gunners favourite Emmanuel Frimpong also chipping in.

If you told most Gunners fans before the start of the season that Chambers would be starting in the opening fixture, many would have been panicking.

However, after a solid pre-season, the versatile defender backed up his impressive start with an excellent first competitive outing.

Although we may not see him as one of Emery’s first names on the teamsheet, he’ll certainly have a big part to play over the next nine months, especially with the Gunners’ lack of options at the back.
