Arsenal have [released the latest injury news](https://www.arsenal.com/news/team-news-lacazette-pepe-bellerin-holding) ahead of their Premier League curtain-raiser against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Gunners are assessing Alexandre Lacazette, who picked up an ankle injury against Lyon 12 days ago, while club-record signing Nicolas Pepe is in contention to make a first competitive appearance for the club.

The news was welcomed by Gunners supporters on social media, who were extremely pleased at the prospect of potentially seeing Pepe in an Arsenal shirt for the first time.

If Lacazette and Pepe can be in the squad for the opening day trip to Tyneside, it would certainly come as a welcome boost. Even if they don’t start, having them around the squad and on the bench will give everyone a huge lift.

Meanwhile, the bizarre situation with Mavropanos continues to roll on. As one supporter suggested, it feels like he’s been out injured for the majority of his Gunners stay. It is unfortunate, however, if the problems continue, he could be looking at an early Emirates exit in the near future.
