Luiz keen on Arsenal switch – why it would be a risky signing

David Luiz wants to leave Chelsea for a move to Arsenal, according to L’Equipe, via GFFN, but the Gunners should think twice about this transfer.

The Brazilian appears to be intent on securing a move away from Stamford Bridge, but in the dying stages of the window, a surprise switch to the Emirates Stadium has emerged as a possibility.

Luiz was important for Chelsea last season as they secured a third-place finish and Europa League glory, but he is seemingly eyeing an exit.

This one has come out of the blue. Luiz has long been scrutinised for his lack of defensive awareness but praised for his outstanding technical ability.

A fabulous ball-player and a confident dribbler, the Brazil international would suit Unai Emery’s demands of playing out from the back. However, ahead of such a pivotal season, it is unclear whether or not an enigmatic defender such as Luiz is really what Arsenal need.

William Saliba will be back and hopefully ready for next season, and until then, the Gunners do need to strengthen their defence. Although, with the Chelsea man apparently an option, it is uncertain whether or not he would actually provide a huge upgrade.

Luiz is not exactly reliable and has the tendency to make erratic decisions both on and off the ball. He is likely to also be on high wages, and as such, Arsenal may be best served looking towards younger, more sensible options with greater potential for growth.
