Arsenal’s new-look attack is hugely exciting, but it doesn’t quite have the balance to match Liverpool’s.
Nicolas Pepe has arrived at the Emirates from Lille, in what is undoubtedly one of the signings of the summer.
It means the Ivorian will be able to link-up with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, making for a fearsome front-three.
According to talkSPORT‘s Jim White on Twitter, Pepe’s former Lille teammate Jose Fonte believes Arsenal’s attack now rivals, and potentially beats, Liverpool’s much-hailed trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
While there is no doubting that the Gunners now have a special forward line of their own, Pepe’s impact will need to be huge to match what Liverpool have to offer.
Arsenal may arguably equal the Reds’ individuals talent-wise, but Salah, Mane and Firmino provide a balance unlike any attacking unit in Europe, with the exception of possibly Manchester City.
Lacazette and Aubameyang both prefer to play centrally, with neither a natural wide man in a front-three, which could disrupt Arsenal’s rhythm slightly.
Only time will tell if Fonte’s opinion ends up being correct, but for the time being, Liverpool have the edge still.
