Arsenal confident over Tierney deal – another defender to follow?

Arsenal are reportedly confident of bringing Celtic star Kieran Tierney to the Emirates Stadium over the next six days – but could another defensive addition follow the Scot through the door?

Arsenal have already been fairly busy in the current window, with most of their business coming over the past 10 days.

The Gunners have secured the permanent services of Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli, teenage defender William Saliba and Ivory Coast star Nicolas Pepe in a club-record deal, with Unai Emery spending over a combined £100 million on the three.

Emery has also brought in Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos on a season-long loan, beating rivals Tottenham to the player’s services last month.

And according to the Daily Express, the Gunners are confident of finally bringing Tierney to London, with Emery also reportedly eyeing up a central defender to join the 22-year-old at the club, but are two arrivals in six days realistic?

If the Gunners can agree to Celtic’s demands and pay the majority of the proposed £25 million fee upfront, a move for the left-back shouldn’t be a problem.

Tierney is keen on the idea of joining Arsenal, so agreeing on personal terms looks set to be fairly straightforward.

However, bringing in a central defender before the deadline closes could prove to be more complex. Juventus’ Daniele Rugani has been a name linked in recent days, with the Italian side turning down the Gunners’ two-year loan proposal.

So, if Arsenal are to sign either Rugani, or another defensive target, the club cannot afford any more hiccups in negotiations.

If discussions can go smoothly in the coming days, there’s no reason why the club can’t bring in two much-needed defenders to the Emirates, which would give Gunners fans plenty of confidence heading into the new campaign.
