# Mills urges Arsenal to make Rose move if Tierney deal falls through – would it be a smart move?

Former England international Danny Mills has urged Arsenal to make a move for Tottenham left-back Danny Rose if a deal for Celtic star Kieran Tierney falls through – but would it be the right thing to do?

Arsenal appear to be [closing in on a deal for the Scotland international](https://readarsenal.com/2019/07/31/arsenal-close-to-revised-tierney-deal-what-would-he-bring-to-the-side/), with Unai Emery desperate to bolster his left-back options before the window closes.

However, Mills, talking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-danny-mills-suggests-arsenal-could-make-shock-raid-for-senior-tottenham-star/), admitted the Gunners should be considering a surprise move for Rose from their rivals if they fail to bring Tierney to London.

> If Arsenal can’t get Tierney, would they take Danny Rose? They should do. The Arsenal-Tottenham thing is of course always going to be an issue but they would take him.

> Manchester City, he’s probably a little bit old for the demographic they’re trying to bring in. Manchester United, Liverpool – they’re okay. Chelsea can’t sign him.

> Realistically, in terms of where he would want to go, they’d be up there challenging, in and around, what other London clubs could afford him?

A move for the current England international would certainly divide opinion at the Emirates.

Rose has plenty of international and domestic experience, and at 29, the full-back still has several high-quality years left in him.

On the other hand, Tottenham appear to be happy to offload the player, so some Arsenal fans could see a move for the defender as a backwards step.

Tierney appears to be the smarter option. The 22-year-old has plenty of time to improve on his already impressive game and can cement himself as Arsenal’s first-choice left-back for the next 10 years.

However, if a move for Tierney falls through, a shock late swoop for Rose could well be of interest to Arsenal and the player himself, which could see the left-back be the latest player to controversially make the move across north London.
