Four Findings: Arsenal 1-2 Lyon (Pre-season)

Arsenal suffered a 2-1 defeat against Lyon in their first Emirates Cup outing of pre-season.

The Gunners hoped to treat the home faithful to a comprehensive victory upon their return to North London but were instead put to the sword by a clinical display from the visitors.

Unai Emery saw his side take the lead in the first half courtesy of a fine strike from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who volleyed into the back of the net after Henrikh Mkhitaryan fashioned the opportunity.

However, Lyon proceeded to catch Arsenal off guard as they levelled the scoreline through Moussa Dembele’s header.

The Gunners thought they had re-taken the lead courtesy of Gabriel Martinelli, but the young attacker saw his goal disallowed because of a handball.

Arsenal would go on to rue their missed chances as Lyon scored a decisive goal, as former Celtic striker Dembele again found himself on the score sheet.

Take a look at four findings from the Gunners’ disappointing 2-1 loss.
