Dani Ceballos will prove to be an astute signing by Arsenal, as they close in on a move for the Spaniard.
According to BBC Sport‘s David Ornstein on Twitter, the Gunners have “reached an agreement” with Real Madrid for Ceballos’ signature, bringing him in on loan for the 2019/20 season.
The 22-year-old is fresh off the back of European Under-21 Championship glory with Spain earlier this summer.
First team opportunities were proving hard to come by under Zinedine Zidane, so a temporary move away benefited all parties.
It is a shrewd move by Arsenal, who could do with fresh blood in midfield, as well as creativity.
Ceballos will bring more guile than the likes of Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira provide, as well as younger legs than Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
While it could be argued that there are more pressing areas for Arsenal to improve in, namely at centre-back – William Saliba is reportedly close to joining on loan – bringing in a player of Ceballos’ quality cannot do any harm.
There is always the risk that a young European player may struggle with the pace and power of English football, but the Spaniard is well-equipped to star in the Premier League.
