Arsenal are reportedly confident of beating Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Dani Ceballos, but would the Real Madrid star be a good addition?

The Mirror reports that the Gunners have moved ahead of Spurs in their pursuit of the Spanish playmaker, who looks set to leave on a season-long loan this summer.

Ceballos was impressive at the Under-21 European Championships throughout June, and following a number of eye-catching displays in La Liga, he is set to test himself in new surroundings next term.

Arsenal appear to be in pole position to recruit the midfielder, but would he be a shrewd signing for Unai Emery?

The Gunners encountered the vast majority of their issues at the back last season, rather than in the opposition third. This could be used as an argument to suggest that the North London outfit should be solely focusing their attention towards bolstering their defensive ranks.

However, when an opportunity to sign a player of Ceballos’s quality arises, it should not be passed up. Arsenal would be adding a player with superb vision, excellent movement, and positional intelligence.

The deal would also work well within the club’s financial constraints, given that it is on an initially temporary basis.

Several clubs have pursued Ceballos, including Arsenal’s bitter rivals Tottenham, it seems, but if Emery’s side are to win the race for the player, they will be signing a playmaker whose displays ooze excitement and flair.
