Arsenal in for Seri – would he be a good signing?

Arsenal are in the race to sign Jean Seri this summer, according to a surprising report from Italian news outlet Calciomercato.

The midfielder struggled in his debut season in English football last term and was unable to influence proceedings as Fulham succumbed to relegation from the Premier League.

However, Seri could yet be poised for a return to one of Europe’s top five divisions, with Calciomercato reporting that both Arsenal and Serie A side AC Milan are keen.

So, would the former OGC Nice star be a sensible addition for the Gunners this summer?

In short, the links are somewhat confusing. Arsenal require significant strengthening in their own third, and if they are to add more to their attacking ranks, it will be via the signings of a number 10 or a winger.

They are considerably well stocked with options in midfield. Matteo Guendouzi showed promising signs last term, and Lucas Torreira will hope to flourish after an up-and-down first season at the Emirates Stadium.

Granit Xhaka is a scrutinised figure but, it would seem, he is still in Unai Emery’s plans for the upcoming season. The importance of these three players would indicate that no extra central midfielder is needed.

Seri was excellent during his time at Nice and emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after players. However, following a disastrous spell at Fulham, concerns have been raised regarding his adaptability to Premier League football.

Arsenal should avoid this one and focus their attention on bolstering the positions that are in dire need of reinforcement this summer.
