Arsenal have joined Europe’s biggest clubs in chasing CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Chalov, the man tipped to be the future face of Russian football, but should the Gunners really be prioritising attacking signings?
During two-and-a-half seasons in the CSKA first team, Chalov has scored 27 goals and provided 14 assists in 65 league games while leading the line, as well as impressing in both the Champions League and Europa League.
According to the Mirror, other clubs interested in the 21-year-old include all five of Arsenal’s Premier League top six rivals, German trio Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, AS Monaco and Sevilla.
The Gunners attacking stars including Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are undoubtedly the most dangerous part of Unai Emery’s squad, so it doesn’t seem like they should be ignoring their defensive issues.
Celtic’s Kieran Tierney appears to be a priority after Arsenal upped their bid to £25million, but the centre-back position remains as a screaming weakness and must be addressed if the club want to progress.
Chalov has played his football at the Moscow club since the age of eight and has grown into one of the country’s most talented stars, finishing the 2018-19 campaign as Russian Premier League top goalscorer with 15 goals.
The creative striker also been lauded for his ability to bring other players into the game, recording eight assists in the league last term. He’d be a good addition, don’t get me wrong, but he’s not what the Gunners need right now.
