Arsenal have reportedly overtaken rivals Tottenham in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos – but would the Spaniard be a good signing by the Gunners?

According to Spanish outlet Marca, cited by the Daily Express, Unai Emery’s side have leapfrogged their rivals in the race to land the 22-year-old on loan.

The Gunners would reportedly sign the Real Madrid man temporarily with an option to buy the player at a later date.

Ceballos recently showcased his talents with his national side, helping Spain to Under 21 European Championship glory.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a midfield addition after losing Aaron Ramsey to Juventus.

A loan deal for the player would be an excellent piece of business by the Gunners, with Ceballos having similar qualities to Ramsey.

The youngster has an excellent passing range, can take the ball past defenders with ease and also has a real eye for goal.

Even though Ceballos’ stay at the Emirates could be shortlived, he would certainly provide Emery with an excellent option in the middle of the park.

It would also then allow the Gunners boss to use his £45 million transfer fund on strengthening other areas, with reinforcements at the back a top priority ahead of the new season.
