# Arsenal to pay £5.5m of Ozil’s wage ahead of Fenerbahce loan – but are the Gunners doing the right thing?

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil appears to be edging closer to a loan spell at boyhood club Fenerbahce – but are the Gunners doing the right thing by letting him go on a temporary basis?

According to [Turkish outlet Fanatik, cited by the Daily Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/fenerbahce-make-mesut-ozil-transfer-17490812), the Turkish giants will pay £8 million towards the German’s wage, leaving the Gunners having to pay the remaining £5.5 million of his £13.5 million salary.

Boss Unai Emery has just £45 million available to him this summer, so a permanent move away from the Emirates for Ozil would be seen as a better option.

There’s no doubting the midfielder’s qualities, however, Ozil hasn’t been able to nail down a regular starting spot under Emery.

The Spaniard doesn’t see the playmaker in his first-team plans next season, so Arsenal would have been better off cashing in on the 30-year-old, even if it meant taking a hit on the £42.5 million they paid for him six years ago.

Instead, it appears as if Ozil will still be on the books in London, and the Gunners will still have to pay just under half of his wages for the player to spend time at his boyhood club in Turkey.
