Argentine centre-back Walter Kanneman would be a perfect acquisition for Arsenal this summer.
The Mirror report that the Gunners have made contract with Gremio about signing the defender this summer, with Southampton also keen.
The 28-year-old is rated highly by Unai Emery, who sees the five-time capped Argentina international as a potential target.
It is a move that makes total sense for Arsenal, with defensive reinforcements surely at the top of Emery’s list of priorities.
Laurent Koscielny remains a key player but fitness issues have dogged him, while the likes of Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Shkodran Mustafi and Konstantinos Mavropano are not necessarily reliable week in, week out.
Not only is Kanneman an established player, but he would also only cost £12 million, which is ideal when taking Arsenal’s tight summer budget into account.
The fact that he has never played in Europe could be a potential issue, but plenty of players have been in that situation in the past, only to thrive when moving continents.
