Arsenal hold Comert talks – but is it a deal worth pursuing?

Arsenal have been told that they will face a fight to land FC Basel defender Eray Comert – so should the Gunners continue their interest after holding talks over the weekend?

The Daily Mail reports that Basel are refusing to sell the Swiss U21 international this summer, despite growing Premier League interest.

This is yet another transfer blow for Arsenal and Unai Emery will be wondering where his big break is going to come from.

Arsenal have been linked with numerous central defenders this summer already, but with the club working on a limited budget, negotiations are proving to be tricky.

Comert is certainly a player worth pursuing. Joining from Basel, it’s likely that he would be among the cheaper of Arsenal’s targets.

While Arsenal still require immediate improvement at the back, supporters can take hope from their reported pursuits of both Comert and William Saliba and know that the club are keeping one eye on the future.

The 21-year-old has already played a great amount of football for someone so young and should be considered as a great prospect for the future, so the Gunners would be smart to wrap this deal up.
