# Arsenal to give Torreira new deal – would it be their best piece of summer business?

Arsenal are reportedly preparing to hand Lucas Torreira a new contract, following the recent interest from Milan – would this be the club’s best piece of business this summer?

[According to reports in Italy,](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/exclusive-arsenal-prepare-renewal-for-torreira-amid-ac-milan-lin-68866) the Gunners are hoping to reward the player after his first season in England.

Arsenal could be thanking their lucky stars if Torreira does go on to renew his contract, as the club simply cannot afford to lose another midfielder ahead of next season.

A potential move back to Italy for Torreira has been thrown into doubt following the news that Milan will no longer be in the Europa League next season after a breach of financial restrictions.

After the departure of Aaron Ramsey to Juventus, Torreira will hope to play a more prominent role under Unai Emery in the Gunners midfield next season.

It has been well documented that the Spaniard is working on a budget this summer and replacing Ramsey is a hard enough task for any manager.

Trying to replace two players, while also strengthening in other areas would have simply been too much to ask when working on such a limited budget.

This is a great move by the club and they’ll be hoping another strong season from the South American will end any suggestions of a move back to Italy.
