Arsenal are thought to be keen on FC Basel defender Eray Comert – but would a move prove to be a smart piece of business by the Gunners?
According to Calcio Mercato, Unai Emery is keen on the young defender, with the Daily Mail stating talks between Arsenal and Comert’s agent are set to take place.
Comert is reportedly valued at £7m by his current club, with the Swiss star under contract until 2022.
Arsenal have been linked with numerous young defenders this summer as Emery looks to bring in multiple additions to bolster his current options at the back.
The Spaniard has limited funds available to him this summer, so a relatively low fee of £7m could prove to be an excellent piece of business.
Despite having limited senior experience, Comert is regarded as a future star and appears to have caught the eye of Arsenal officials with his 31 Basel appearances last season.
The Switzerland Under-21 captain has proven to be a calm and composed figure at the back and has impressed with his intelligent play and positional awareness.
Incredibly strong and good on the ball, the youngster has also proven to be a threat at set pieces, scoring two goals last season.
A proposed £7m deal for Comert could be one that needs to go through this summer as Emery looks to build on his first season in charge at the Emirates.
